Weed Control

Fiesta Weed Control

GroGreen Lawn Care uses Fiesta weed killer to control weeds in your lawn. Fiesta is currently the only effective weed control product licensed for use in Ontario.

Fiesta is an iron based liquid used to kill your weeds quickly and effectively. The iron is absorbed into the plant and makes its way to the root, in which excessive iron intake causes the weed to die at the source.

How effective is Fiesta?

For many weeds, especially broad-leaved weeds such as dandelion, Fiesta is extremely effective and works within hours. Some weeds, such as clover, black medic and creeping charlie (ground-ivy), have a waxy coating that will limit the uptake of Fiesta. Repeated applications will be needed over time to control, reduce and eliminate some weeds.

GroGreen Lawn Care has pioneered techniques and additives to Fiesta (which are safe and allowed in accordance to the Cosmetic Pesticides Ban Act, 2008) to improve the effectiveness of Fiesta Weed Killer.

Fiesta in our Nutrient Pro Program

GroGreen's Nutrient Pro Program includes 4 applications of Fiesta, 2 in the spring and 2 in the fall.

We offer an option of a fifth application, done in the early summer to help problem lawns get into shape.

Our Nutrient Pro program also includes soil testing which may identify problems with your soil that could be contributing to a weed problem.

Beware of 'too good to be true' weed control

There are several companies operating in the GTA that are selling Fiesta based weed control but are using chemicals banned by the Cosmetic Pesticides Ban Act, 2008. The use of banned chemicals is not only illegal, but unsafe as their use is no longer regulated and technicians are no longer trained in their safe use.

If your weeds don't blacken, but shrivel up between 5 and 10 days later, especially with hard to control weeds, your lawn care service provider may be using these chemicals illegally.

Lawn care service providers (and home owners) are being charged and fined for using banned chemicals. The investigation process is long, but when convicted press releases of the offenders are posted on the Ontario government website.

GroGreen Lawn Care Inc. is committed to following all laws and guidelines as presented in the Cosmetic Pesticides Ban Act, 2008. We will never see our name or our clients names posted in a press release.
